Today we went to a local “Motor Show” which was basically a load of car dealers trying to sign you up to “manager’s deal of the week” (ranging from £0 to £10,000 off – why would you write “customer savings £0” ? – that really doesn’t do the trick!)
So my present car is totally clapped out. We are about to pay £970 to have major surgery to it when it is worth about £150. It is our family car but as it is 11 years old and has way more miles on the clock than I care to think about it now has more problems than it is worth. But the problem is that we simply can’t afford to purchase another large family car (with roof rails for top box and huge boot for massive tent, several sets of golf clubs and trollies, cricket bags, 5 people’s luggage for a beach and boating holiday etc – how much room do boogie boards and wake boards take up?! good job they don’t do real surfing as well). I saw a marvellous Subaru estate car at the show. Over £30,000. Oops. But the dealer chap says he has one for £15,000, used, you just haven’t got the satnav! (can live without that!) Better but still unachievable. Dreaming on. Back to oil leaks, rotted steering column and oh yes, two new tyres needed at £85 each as well (per MOT) as well as leaking shocks (from going over the speed humps too fast no doubt).
Roll on that massive lottery win that I just know must be coming my way….
Still at least partner and his mother enjoyed getting in and out of all the cars and discussing the merits and he can dream on over his Jaguars as well. Plus this year, bonus, the weather stayed dry (last year we all had to run for cover in major downpours).
