Here’s a really fun family activity and it’s edible at the end! Also makes quick and easy lunch, or dinner with some salad and garlic bread.
Either make the dough by hand or in a bread machine (most machines have a recipe for pizza dough) or buy ready made pizza bases from a supermarket. One carton of passata and one tube of tomato puree. Chopped up peppers, sliced mushrooms, pepperoni, sliced onions (red onions are particularly good) and sliced fresh tomatoes. You could add other items such as ham, pineapple, barbecued chicken, anchovies, sardines etc. Grate plenty of mature cheddar or get some mozzarella or similar.
So today is Wednesday August 5th. After 4 days of scorching sunshine on the beach (who needs to go abroad, all brown as berries) yesterday was blustering with sea fret from time to time. Still spent several hours at the beach but without taking off jumpers etc. Today showers alternating with sunny intervals (is that what the met office call it?!). Kids and partner are planning on going to the open air swimming pool at the top of the town but I think I will stay in the town and go for a wander then hoover and clear up in the flat which has half a beach on the floors and in the bath and shower.
So we went to the Music Festival on the weekend, the QT’s, myself and QT1’s friend. Not a camping event but one with bands (mostly local) on both days from midday. On Saturday we went on the bus and the weather was sunny and warm. The music was passable (outside stage, marquee stage, bandstand and indoor stage so plenty of choice). On Sunday the weather was awful, tipping rain most of the day. So I drove in. Luckily the onstreet parking charges are not levied on Sundays. But the music was awesome!
So this week grinds to an end. QT2 had three excitable 15 year olds round on Tuesday for a “sleepover” and to wreck the blow up spa because one of them got in with his laminated bus pass in his pocket! It’ taken until yesterday to clean all the little blue paper/adhesive bits out and refill it! Plus they ordered pizza at 10.30pm and trod it into the carpet and thanks to Coca Cola max they didn’t actually go to sleep but talked all night so no-one in the house slept (QT1 had gone out to a friends house for the night, how sensible!). We went out to the pub up the road for the evening but as we had to work the next day an all-nighter wasn’t an option! At 5am on Weds am as I had just got to sleep QT2 knocks on the door asking if I would like a cup of tea! Strange how that has never occurred to him before at a sensible hour. Ho Hum.
Today is Queenie Teenie 2’s birthday (15). He had to get up early (shock horror) because we had the alarm man coming for the annual maintenance visit. So he opened his presents from distant relatives. As he always asks for money not much to display! As I went off to work he was glued to Rugby 15 on the Xbox and Queenie Teenie 1 was hidden by the laptop. Oh well, I suppose it keeps them quiet.
This is measured in mugs so no scales needed, do use the same mug for all the ingredients however!
Today I heard the alarm at 7am and turned it off! Then woke up at 9am (oops that’s 2 productive hours lost). Went downstairs and dithered about hanging washing out because it had clearly rained a lot in the night and was still overcast. Had smoothy and granola. Decided to hand out the washing anyway, as of now it is dry (3 hours later)! Made a bran loaf because partner and older daughter like it for breakfast. There’s another way to make kids eat something that’s good for them – call it fruit cake! I would spread margarine or butter on it but in fact they eat it without which is no doubt better for you! Every morning I have this smoothie: it gets in 3 or 4 of my five a day without trying! Here is the recipe for it:
So I got up at 7 am and can never go back to sleep when the sun’s shining. Hung the washing out (after going back in for a coat, wind jolly cold). Had my usual breakfast smoothie – I have Activeblend (I think its a Breville) which comes with 2 large bottles and 2 small which is handy for a family.
