Halloween

wpid-20151031_123140.jpgHalloween being on a Saturday it seemed rude not to put out some sweets for trick or treaters.  QT1 had a party for 8 16 year old guests so I made some cakes,  this is a Victoria Sponge (I think I have given the recipe before) with reduced sugar strawberry jam in the middle and Betty Crockers chocolate frosting topped with black ready to roll icing rolled out and cut into a web (not very impressive) and spider (scary!)

I carved a pumpkin (see below) as usual but the inside was mouldy so had to purchase two medium sized ones to make soup (recipe separately).

With the remaining sponge mix I made pumpkin and ghost cupcakes in these silicon moulds that I got last year from Aldi.  But even though I greased them well the flipping cakes still stuck in the moulds.  So I iced them in the moulds – chocolate frosting for the pumpkins and white icing (icing sugar and hot water) with dragee eyes and mouths for the ghosts.  They then had to be dug out with teaspoons.  Ho hum.wpid-20151031_170342_lls.jpg

A couple of bottles of pop and some other sweet and savoury snacks seemed to have gone down well!

Meantime QT2 was out with mates but did come home reasonably early.  Partner and self went to the pub up the road for the evening!    Everybody happy.
